It becomes an annoying situation when your desktop PC or laptop runs very slowly while you're doing an important task. Mostly due to improper maintenance, our Windows PC doesn't run in the same speed that it used to run when it was first used. Many users experience some applications taking much time to run, creepy downloading speed, and their computer hangs for a couple of seconds. Spending few minutes regularly for PC care, can result in a seamless performance. Check in some key points from this article that will help you boost your computer's performance.
1. Clean Up Unnecessary Files
Regularly scan for unnecessary and temporary files that affect your computer's speed. Use Windows' built-in disk clean up tool to remove old and temporary files. The task scheduler in Windows helps to run disk clean up tool on a scheduled time. Disk clean up tool basically removes temporary internet files, Windows temporary files such as error reports, empty recycle bin, clean up unused restore points.
2. Disk Defragmentation
A computer's hard drive holds large varieties of data files in different positions. Disk defragmentation arranges all these fragmented files in proper place and provides free space. It helps your computer run quickly and efficiently. The applications load much faster as files are physically arranged in the drives.
3. Remove Viruses & Malwares
Whenever you surf the internet without tight security, your computer is threatened by many viruses and malwares. Malicious and junk files get downloaded to your system and takes unnecessary space. They can kill your system's performance by corrupting other files and folders. So, it is always recommended to use a good anti-virus that can strongly protect your PC from all type of badwares and ensure good system performance.
4. Repair Disk Errors
Run error checking utility for checking the integrity of files stored on your hard disk. There are possible chances that your computer will be affected by bad sectors. These sectors can affect your hard disk performance and make data writing difficult. The Error Checking utility scans the system for bad sectors and file system errors. It fixes all the errors and ensures smooth performance.
5. Uninstall Unused Programs
There are many users who install several programs on their computer, but they do not use all of them. This takes unnecessary space affecting the computer's speed. Check all installed programs and find the programs that you don't use or rarely use. Simply uninstall them and make your system free from space taking programs.

How the Number of Antennas Affect Wireless Router Performance (MIMO)?
At the time when Wireless vendors introduced the wireless router in market, most of the devices had one antenna. That means the single antenna would send and receive wireless signals. However, now it is the time of Multiple Input Multiple Output technology. In MIMO (short form of Multiple Input Multiple Output), AP (Access Point) is able to send and receive wireless signals over multiple antennas. This feature improved the efficiency of the Wireless router compared to traditional single antenna routers.
How the Number of Antennas Improves Signal Quality
There are many factors which affect quality of the signal. Those factors include:
1. Wireless Range
2. Interference
3. Echo handling
4. Wireless Bandwidth
1. Range
Range is a very important factor. To improve the wireless range of an Access Point either we can use a powerful antenna or use multiple ordinary antennas. experiments say it is wise to use multiple antennas instead of using single powerful antenna. Here MIMO plays a big role in increasing the signal-range as MIMO lets the AP use multiple channels.
2. Avoid Interference
We are using many devices which emit wireless signals. So there is a chance of interference which can badly affect quality of AP. Using multiple channels we can reduce the chances of possible interference with other wireless devices.
3. Echo handling
Another important point we should consider while using wireless router is the possibility of echo. Echo can reduce the performance of the device and the quality of the network. Echo badly affect the signal we receive and its quality will be less than actually it meant for. AP needs at least three antennas to reduce the effect of echo.
4. Bandwidth
MIMO has a vital role in improving the bandwidth.
Which Wireless Standards support MIMO
Practically IEEE802.11n standard supports Multiple Input Multiple Output Standard. So we can see all the multiple antenna routers belongs to wireless n standard. In addition to 802.11n, MIMO is supported by 4G, WiMAX, HSPA+ etc. It shows future technologies cannot avoid the use of Multiple Input Multiple Output technology.
Predecessors of MIMO
MIMO is not a Standalone technology. It comes from a set of standards. They are:
1. SISO
2. SIMO
3. MISO
In SISO (Single Input Single Output) AP does not have multiple channels to receive and send signal. In SIMO (Single Input Multiple Output) device can transmit signal through single channel only. MISO (Multiple Input Single Output) is opposite to SIMO where device can transmit though multiple channels. So we can see MIMO is derived by combining the SISO, SIMO and MISO standards.

Performance Analysis of ThinkPad X1 Carbon
On August 6, 2012, Lenovo Group held a world premiere activity for its new product, ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the first carbon fiber ultrabook in the PC industry. This represented the advent of the lightest 14-inch X1 Carbon in the world. On August 9, ThinkPad X1 Carbon began to accept bookings. In addition to inherit classic elements of ThinkPad, the brand new ThinkPad X1 Carbon has its own features: high quality-made of carbon fiber material, ultra-thin design with its minimum up to 8mm, IVB core processor and ultra-long standby time. This ultrabook called Black Macbook is priced 9699RMB in China, an unexpected price indeed.
Well, does the ThinkPad X1 Carbon perform well? Many tests on its performance have been made, and now we will analyze the data so that all of us can have a better understanding towards its performance.
ThinkPad X1 Carbon is equipped with Core i5-342U, Intel's new generation of IVB, and a 1.8GHz processor it can be boost to 2.8GHz by Turo). Besides, it possesses a 4GB DDR3-1600 memory, a 128GB SSD and a HD 4000 graphics.
Performance test
Processor:
Lenovo has 3 options in selecting the CPU for ThinkPad X1 Carbon, Intel Core I8-3667U, Intel Core I5-3427U and Intel Core i5-3317U. From the results of the tests we can see that the performance of the Core I5-3427U processor is in medium level among the current ultrabooks.
HD Graphics:
As HD 4000 graphics is a mainstream equipment of the current ultrabooks, it can meet basic needs for use although its performance is incompatible to those ultrabooks with single graphics.
PCMark Vantage:
It is obvious that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon ranks first or second in terms of PCMark Vantage. Both of its test results are on the leading position because of the effective assistance from SSD.
Battery Life:
The environment for testing ThinkPad X1 Carbon: adjust the screen brightness to 70%, open wireless network, and adjust the power management of Window 7 for balance. Under this circumstance, the battery keeps working for 5 hours and 56 minutes. The result reflects the fact that its battery life is merely stronger than its old version of X1. As the battery can't be replaced, can the up to 6 hours of working time support the use for a business trip?
According to the above test results, we can make the following conclusions. The performance of ThinkPad X1Carbon is above the average level. Although its CPU belongs to low voltage version, it works rather well. Meanwhile, the HD 4000 graphics is incompatible to those single graphics, but it meets the needs for HD video display and for mainstream games. In the PCMark Vantage, ThinkPad X1 Carbon performs very well with its test results at the top of the list. It is adequate to deal with office work. As for its battery life, I think its working life should be longer than 6 hours. As its working life can be affected by power equipments and working environment, I think it will be improved if Lenovo's power management software is applied after the ultrabook comes into the market.
