A high-end power supply unit comes in many different forms, with a great range of different output parameters that enable them to be used for a great number of different functions. Whether you use them for business IT or home use, it is worth understanding the fundamental elements of what differentiates the basic home supply with a higher end product like a programmable or DIN rail power supply. First of all let's take a look at the main characteristics.
A regulated supply takes electrical power from its source e.g. mains, generator or battery, and, as is self-evident from the name, regulates this, principally in terms of voltage or current, providing, for example, a 'transformer' or 'step up/step down' function. This is why the power unit is often referred to as the heart of a piece equipment, be it computer or Hi-Fi, and why it is so important to ensure that it is both safe and reliable and will have a long life.
The output parameters must be closely controlled and consistent. Similarly important for many other tasks, including laser surgery, magnetic resonance imaging scanning, oil well logging, particle physics research and electroplating, is a programmable power supply. This is a way of providing different output parameters, but the need for control and consistency is still paramount.
This supply consists of current/voltage programming circuits, current/voltage read-back circuits, current shunts and a processor. The supply might also include overvoltage, overcurrent and short circuit protection as well as temperature compensation. Remote control of the supply may be through a variety of interfaces such as a GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus), RS232, ethernet, can bus and profi buses or an analogue input signal. In this way it is possible to control current, voltage and, for AC output suppliers, frequency.
If AC output is desired, it can be either single-phase, generally used for low-voltage supplies, or three-phase, principally for high-voltage power supplies. The power suppliers can be wall mounted, board mounted, floor mounted, bench top or modular. A typical bench variable-switching DC unit specifications could be voltage: 0-10V/500V, current: 0-600mA/105A, power:350W-1KW.
And with such a variety of options it is easy to see why these power supplies have become so important in automotive, semiconductor and component industries, especially in the production of test systems. The programmable version, like the regulated power supply, is still at the heart of whatever function it is involved in.

Why Is Corporate Functionality a Very Essential Feature in Tablet PC?
The business community is keenly watching the innovations, which are unfolding in the portable devices such as Android tablet PC, iPhones, smartphones and iPads. Today, business executives are increasingly becoming mobile as they move from one place to another for business reasons. The traditional aspect of handling business matters in office is slowly fading away. This means that business executives are seeking for devices, which they can contact their businesses with easily and conveniently.
There has been a good progress in the development of Androids, iPads and iPhones and other smartphones especially in internet connectivity. People who are on business trips can today access the internet and other online applications such as website browsing and transacting payments online. This not only makes the business processes efficient but also strengthens business-customer bond.
Corporate functionality of the portable devices is essential since it helps in conducting of business activities from anywhere, anytime. Part of the problem which has been witnessed with Android-based tablet pc devices is that they do not cater for the corporate market. This is an aspect, which could be locking away the business community from adopting the use of these devices in their environments such as ecommerce.
Although there are some rumors that Android manufacturers could begin advancing their devices to incorporate corporate functionality, this needs to be addressed more urgently if the devices are to remain competitive in the market. An enterprise-friendly portable device is that which can offer platforms and apps that enhance business communication, internet marketing, social networking, and online advertising as well as innovative business apps like electric document signing or esignatures.
As statistics show that Androids have gained huge popularity, this means that businesses are still interested in using the devices. According to a survey that tracked the usage of Android and, which was conducted by ad network Millennial Media, it has showed that Google's Android platform is generating more revenue than others such as Apple.
One of the reasons why Android operating system has competitively outperformed Apple's iOS system is because Google has been promoting free access of its Android OS. From the Millennial Media study, Android operating system outweigh others such as RIM, iOS, Windows OS and Symbian. In 2010, Android gathered 46% ad impressions share compared to Apple's iOS.
The Android operating system serves up millions of ad impressions and these statistics are demonstrating that Android phones are increasing becoming popular in their use and especially in the business community. Moreover, the revenues generated from Android and apple's iOS still reflect that Google's Android is remarkably posing a challenge to Apple's iOS. In the fourth quarter of 2011, Android generated close to 55% of all ad revenues share and Apple's iOS accounted for about 39%.
In essence, Android has an excellent opportunity of enhancing its business applications by advancing its corporate functionality so that it can offer more tailored apps, which are required by businesses. The "tug of war" that is being witnessed within Google's Android and Apple's iOS devices will continue to attract the interest of many businesses. However, the bottom line is that innovativeness is the cornerstone in achieving a competitive edge in the mobile device usage such as tablet PC.
